My Oily Morning Routine – My Top 5 Oils

RACHEL mcdermott essential oils

Essential oils don’t have to be kept just for the bath or dropping onto a pillow before bed (although that is also amazing!), incorporating them into an everyday routine can have great impact on our bodies on a cellular level.

I’ve shared my ‘Top 5 oils’ which I use in the morning below.

1 – Wake up – breathe deep with a seasonal oil of choice. At the moment when the mornings are darker, I am using Elevation blend – this is an invigorating blend of oils, which help lift the mood ; Lavandin Flower, Tangerine Peel, Lavender Flower/Leaf, Amyris Bark, Clary Sage Flower/Leaf, Hawaiian Sandalwood Wood, Ylang Ylang Flower, Ho Wood Leaf, Osmanthus Flower, Lemon Myrtle Leaf, and Melissa Flower/Leaf essential oils.

A couple of drops into my hand and a few deep breaths. Then switch on the diffuser with around 5 drops of this blend too…. helps the entire household wake up. The kids love it!

2 – Dry Skin brushing before the shower. This is one of my favourite places to use the oils – it helps get the system going – I love Pink Pepper essential oil or grapefruit. These oils are really good to get the lymphatic system going and give the skin a healthy glow. 2-3 drops directly onto the brush bristles and then brush for 5 or so minutes, towards the heart.

3 – Copaiba or Frankincense – I’ve worked with these oils for a long time, so I am confident to use specific oils internally (very carefully). To ensure that you too are using each oil in the right way, please do read up on them and drop me a line with any questions. Ensure that the oil is Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) quality. I use dōTERRA oils as they are the purest you can buy.

Historically, I have struggled with anxiety and nerves – I have a consistent practice of yoga, meditation and oils now that really helps support these periods in my life. I have used Frankincense and Copaiba consistently for a couple of years now and they are really grounding and calming my nerves, helping ease that knot on my tummy and my heart racing (they are also really good for renewing cells and also your skin).

4 – Lemon Tea to get the system going - Warm water and 2 drops Lemon essential oil. Lemon has great cleansing qualities and the oil is gentle on the teeth. Also the aroma of lemon is very uplifting for our mood. Great on a rainy day! Anything that comes from the top of a plant, especially citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, grapefruits and limes, are really good for uplifting our mood and bringing the sunshine in.

5 – On Guard Protective Blend in a roller ball used topically. I use the roller ball of On guard up my spine and onto the arches of my feet before I put my socks on (and also for the kids). The On Guard blend is incredible for protecting us against germs – perfect for this time. It creates a barrier around the body. These oils as a combination interplay perfectly together and have more impact that using them individually (I’ll do another post on why we blend!) This blend smells so good. It includes : Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils.

It’s hard to keep it to 5 oils! But this is a taster at how versatile and supportive the oils are for everyday living. If there’s something you’d like to try and would like a sample, please drop me a line.

*please note I share with you my tips and knowledge. I am not an aromatherapist, but I have had extensive training with dōTERRA oils and share with you my experiences and knowledge. Everyone is different, so please go with care. Oils are natural and have been used for centuries. They are less toxic for our bodies, reducing build-up of nasty chemicals in our systems.
